Update Sony Xperia Z2 D6502 To Android 5.0.2 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 Firmware [Official]

12

Good day for Xperia Z2 D6502 owners. Sony has finally started rolling out the long awaited Android Lollipop for this variant of the Xperia Z2. Its been pretty long since the D6503 users have been enjoying the biggest Android update, which made the other variants users much more anxious for the sweetness of Lollipop. As expected, the new update carries some major UI changes, Sony hasn’t changed its UI completely, but has managed to comply with Google’s all new Material Design UI. New features include notifications on lock screen, enhanced battery life, better performance. Some bugs have been fixed as well.

This update carries the build number 23.1.A.0.690, with Android version 5.0.2. The update is on a slow rollout and hitting different regions one by one. If you can’t wait for this update to arrive via OTA or through Sony PC Companion, you can flash it using Sony Flashtool as well. For users looking out for this Sony Flashtool method, we’ve made this comprehensive guide. As you move ahead, you will be able to update your Sony Xperia Z2 D6502 to this latest official Android 5.0.2 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 firmware. Let’s go through some early preparations and update this device now.

Early Preparations:

1. This is only for Sony Xperia Z2 D6502

This ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see your model number. Flashing this firmware on any other device will result in bricking it so make sure that you meet this requirement first of all.

2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%.

Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.

3. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

  • Backup SMS Messages
  • Backup Call Logs
  • Backup Contacts
  • Backup Media – Copy your files manually to your PC or Laptop.
  • Titanium Backup – If already rooted, use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps, system data and other important content. If you haven’t rooted your device previously, skip this step.
  • Backup Nandroid – If CWM  or TWRP installed previously, otherwise skip this step and perform this at the end of flashing.

4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.

Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap “Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.

5. Install and setup Sony Flashtool.

You must have installed Sony Flashtool. Find the full guide here.

After installing Sony Flashtool, open the Flashtool folder from the drive where you installed it. Now open Flashtool>Drivers>Flashtool-drivers.exe and install the Flashtool, Fastboot & Xperia Z2 drivers from the list. [Important]

6. Use OEM data cable to establish connection.

Make sure that you use the phone’s original data cable to establish connection between your phone and the PC. Using a different data cable might result in interrupting the firmware installation.

  1. Please do an update on Galaxy s5 running lol pop. Towel root doesn’t work here. Any suggestions to make it high speed low drag.

  2. I completed the installation and followed the instructions and it has installed fine

    THE ONLY PROBLEM..

I Have no voice or mobile data phone roaming.

Is this Firmware compatible with 4G LTE phones?? I live in Australia.

  3. SO I USED THIS GUIDE, FOLLOWED EVERY STEP AND INSTALLED THE FIRMWARE. YES, LOLLIPOP IS ON MY PHONE. BUT A PHONE THAT DOES NOT ROAM AND HAS NO MOBILE OR DATA RECPETION IS A PRETTY USELESS PHONE DONT YOU THINK?

SO. I TRIED TO DOWNGRADE, NOT THAT SIMPLE IS IT?

SOME HELP WILL BE VERY APPRECIATED.

  4. Sorry for dumb question. Do I need to backup my firmware or can I back up it? I did update my phone once and my IMEI lost. Which means no mobile services can be used. And I had to send it to mobile service center [Don’t know how to fix it]. But it was because I installed D6503 firmware. It was my first time updating the firmware unofficially. My phone is D6502 for sure. Is there 4G LTE on D6502? I am very afraid to update firmware via flashtool after that happened. But I want the lastest update too. So, are you sure it won’t make my phone IMEI lose again? If I lost my IMEI, how can I restore it back? Please, help me. By the way, my device is rooted. And what is Kernel and custom ROM? I don’t want to change other. Just want to update firmware.

    • @NyanAlone:disqus this is official firmware, it won’t cause any harm. I guess D6502 doesn’t have LTE. You can upgrade to the latest firmware without any fear. If your device is rooted, you can load a custom recovery and just to be on a safe side, you can create a Nandroid backup. This will help you to recovery your device in case something goes wrong.

      • Another dumb question to ask again. I used ROM Manager to install CWM recovery. But it didn’t support Z2 and how can I backup my custom ROM? My phone is rooted anyway. And I read that after update this latest firmware, root will be removed. That means my phone will become unrooted like a new phone? Here, your firmware version is 23.1.A.0.690 and the firmware I saw on XperiFirm is 23.1.A.1.28. So, what is the different? I checked it under Xperia Z2 sirius D6502/L50w. Will it work on my phone? Sorry for asking many things and thank you for answering my stupid questions.
