Update Sony Xperia Z1 to Android 4.4.4 Kit-Kat via CM 11 M8 Custom ROM

Recently, we posted CM 11 M8 Custom ROM on both the Nexus 5 and Galaxy Note 3 and it is time for Sony Xperia Z1 to receive the update of CM 11 M8 snapshot. For Sony Xperia Z1 this update does bring a lot of changes, unlike for any other device. Sony Xperia Z1 will sure to receive the update of Android 4.4.4 Kit-Kat in all of the regions, but time will be taken and nobody knows how much. You should be glad to use CM 11 M8 on your device, it is based on Android 4.4.4 Kit-Kat and not like any Official ROM, this is the best ROM and since it is the Nightly version, you are sure to receive the updates almost every day, with new features and stuff.

If we look at the side, where they have given the list of Bug Fixes, VPN Issues related to Android 4.4.3 have been fixed, the expended desktop has been moved to ‘Display’, Heads-up notifications can be enabled, interface is replaced with Status Bar, Notification Drawer and Gestures, Duplicates are removed from Security, Buttons are moved for Navigation bar and much more.

In this Article,  we will show you How To Update Sony Xperia Z1 to Android 4.4.4 Kit-Kat via CM 11 M8 Custom ROM. But before we begin, make sure:

  1. That you have a Well Charged Battery, 60%-80% is better.
  2. Back-Up all your important ContactsCall Logs & Messages. It is highly recommended in case of any mishap or data loss to back up all your important data.
  3. Back-Up your Mobiles EFS Data.
  4. Check your device model, Go To Setting > About and Make sure that it is C6902, C6903, C6906.
  5. Do not try it on any other device.
  6. Enable USB Debugging Mode
  7. Download USB Driver For Sony Devices: Link
  8. Bootloader Must Be Unlocked: Link
  9. Root Your Device: Link

How To Install It.

  • Connect your device with PC.
  • Copy and Paste the Above zip files to the root of your sdcard.
  • Disconnect the cable.
  • Turn Off your Device
  • Turn it ON again. When the phone is powering up, as soon as the green LEDturns on, press Volume Up for  CWM Recovery

CWM/PhilZ Touch Recovery Users.

  1. Back-up your ROM using the Recovery.
  2. To Perform a Back-up, Navigate to Back-up and Restore on Next screen, Choose Back-up again.
  3. Go back to Main Screen after the Back-up is complete.
  4. First Choose ‘Wipe Cache’.
  5. Then Navigate to ‘advance’ and choose ‘Devlik Wipe Cache’, so you won’t get in any bootloop.
  6. Then Finally Choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  7. Navigate to ‘Install zip from sd card’ another windows will open in front of you.
  8. Select ‘choose zip from sd card’ from the Options.
  9. Select the CM 11.zip file and confirm the installation on next screen.
  10. Once the Installation is Over, Go back and Flash Google Apps
  11. Once the Installation is Over, Select +++++Go Back+++++
  12. Select Reboot Now to Reboot the System.

TWRP Users.

  1. Tap on Wipe Button and Select Cache, System, Data.
  2. Swipe the Confirmation Slider.
  3. Go back to Main Menu and Tap Install Button.
  4. Locate the CM11.zip, Google Apps and Swipe the Slider To install it.
  5. Once the Installation is Over, you will promoted to Reboot System Now
  6. Select Reboot Now to Reboot the System.

Solve Signature Verification Error:

  1. Open Recovery.
  2. Navigate to install zip from Sdcard
  3. Navigate to Toggle Signature Verification and Press Power Button and See if it is disabled or not. Disable it and then Install the Zip without any Error.

That is it! Just wait for almost 5-minutes, you’ll find your Sony Xperia Z1 running Android 4.4.4 Kit-Kat CM 11 ROM, Go to Settings > About to verify.
