Well the images are out and it is official, Tizen-powered Samsung Z1 will be launching soon. As many times as the company has delayed launching their smartphone which is powered by Tizen, Samsung’s own operating system, there were doubts whether or not it would actually launch Z1(SM-Z130H) on 18th January, the new launch date confirmed by the company.
One of the leaked screenshots shows Samsung Z1’s rear body, which is covered by leather. This is a good development that the company is ditching the plastic body in favor of leather, which gives a more luxurious feeling than plastic, which gave off a cheap impression.
Apart from that, some screenshots of the Tizen interface were also leaked and if that is how the interface is going to look than it’s no different than Android’s. We were hoping that if the company is going the extra mile to bring out their own operating system, at least they could have made it different than Android’s interface. This situation actually is quite ironical, the company copies what it is trying to differentiate from.
Samsung Z1 will be launching in India first and will retail for $90, then in February and March the device will be launched in China and South Korea respectively. Samsung is banking on entry-level devices like Z1 to help them boost their falling sales graph in Asian markets like India and China. How well the Tizen-powered Samsung Z1 does in terms of sales depends on how well it performs and what unique does it offer from the an Android based smartphone within the same price range.
