The first ever smartphone with a thermal camera: Cat S60

After making its mark in the heavy duty machines’ manufacturing industries, CAT is determined to revolutionize the world of smartphones. Quite recently, CAT announced their all new smartphone, S60, which is the first one its kind to feature an integrated thermal camera.


The S60 has a 4.7″ capacitive multi-touch display, protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, the smartphone is packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor along with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage capacity. Not to mention this smartphone offers glove support for its users in chilly regions.  Moreover, the device will be running on Android Marshmallow.

Among all the amazing features this smartphones carries, the one that stands out is it integrated FLIR thermal camera. This camera will allow its users to take thermal still images, panoramas and videos.

Needless to say, CAT’s smartphone will offer robustness to the extreme limits. Following are features which will be coming out of the box with the all new S60. This particular smartphone is made from strengthened Die Cast frame which allows it to be drop proof to 1.8m. It has a super bright display protected by Gorilla Glass 4. A 4.7″ HD capacitive multi-touch display is also featured which also supports wet fingers and gloves. It is powered by an impressive 3800mAh battery. S60 delivers high quality audio experience (>150dB). As mentioned earlier, it is run by a combination of  Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. CAT also went ahead and offered a 4G LTE support along with a water-resistant 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Moreover, the device will be running on Android Marshmallow which was released last year with numerous new goodies including a completely new app drawer, redesigned app permissions, Doze, and Google Now on Tap. On top of all, a dedicated FLIR thermal camera app with MSX technology with the capability to capture still images, panoramas and videos. This camera will offer changeable heat pallets, temperature spot meter along with min-max-average temperature data.

As far as the price and availability is concerned, the CAT S60 will be made available commercially in the later part of the year with an impressive price tag of $599 for U.S and €649 for UK.
