We have been hearing rumors of a ‘Lite’ variant of the Huawei P9 from quite some time now, in fact the smartphone was being rumored even when the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus were still to be unveiled. However the company didn’t announce any smartphone of such kind even alongside the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus. Nevertheless, leaks of the P9 Lite are still piling up one on another.
We have been treated with P9’s leaked specifications and images earlier on, however for the first time, a credible source provided us with the internal details of the upcoming handset. As we speak, the Chinese regulatory, TENAA, posted the Huawei P9 Lite on its official website. The certification authority feasted us with some images and complete specifications of the smartphone.
Most probably, the upcoming handset got its ‘Lite’ moniker from the fact that it won’t be featuring the rear-facing dual-camera setup co-engineered by Leica and Huawei. For those who don’t about the Leica lens which were introduced with the P9 and P9 Plus, it is a combination of identical 12 megapixel dual camera setup. Both of Leica’s rear shooters come with 1.25-micron pixel size and a wide F/2.2 aperture. One of the two optics is used to capture colored pictures, while the other works in monochrome. This monochrome camera is used to snap pictures in black and white while sensing lighting conditions for enhanced and accurate results. Note that instead of the dual-camera setup, the Huawei P9 Lite will come standard with 13 megapixel rear shooter and an 8 megapixel selfie camera at the front.
Apparently the smartphone will sport a 5.2 inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD display. The handset will be powered by a 2 GHz octa-core processor which will be accompanied by 3GB of RAM. In addition to that, a 16 GB internal storage capacity which supports expansion via microSD slot. Other features include a fingerprint scanner and a 2900 mAh battery. The smartphone will come standard in three different colour variants –White, Black and Gold. Moving on the software department, the Huawei P9 Lite will be running Huawei’s own, Emotion UI baked into Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
There’s still no word on pricing as yet, though the P9 Lite has been floating around European web stores for a pre-order cost equivalent to around $306. We expect the device to reach consumers at some point next month, once Huawei has finally treated it to an official announcement.
Although the price and availability of the handset is still unknown, the P9 Lite has been spotted in European webstores for a pre-order against $306. Meanwhile, we bring you bunch of other leaked pictures of the Huawei P9 Lite. Please have a look:
