How to Sync Contacts with Gmail Account on Android

There are several methods to backup your contacts on an Android smartphone. You can create a VCF file and copy it to a safe location, you can also export your device’s contacts to your SIM card and you can also backup your contacts on a cloud drive. Google gives this option to the Android users to sync all their contacts with their Gmail Account. The option is turned-on by default in Android smartphones. However, if it’s not already working, you can force-sync your contacts with your Google Gmail Account.

Backing up your contacts through a Gmail Account is the most useful and also the most convenient option. At first, your contacts stay in your Gmail Account, it means there is no risk of loosing them as a result of a data wipe. The contact file stored on your computer can be lost easily. While the contacts on Gmail Account will stay there as long as you yourself do not delete them. After installing a new stock or custom ROM on your phone, you just have to re-add your Google Account and it will automatically bring back all the contacts. On the other hand, when you manually back up your contacts, you have to manually restore them.

An Androird device without a Google Account is incomplete. There is a 100% chance that you are using a Gmail Account on your Android smartphone. It’s very easy to take the advantage of this feature. Here are a few simple and easy steps to sync contacts with Gmail Account on Android.

Sync Contacts with Gmail

  1. On your Android phone, go to Setings > Cloud and Accounts > Accounts. On some devices, you will simply go to Settings > Accounts.
  2. In Accounts, tap Google > tap the Gmail address you are using on your Android phone.
  3. Now in the account sync options, find “Sync Contacts“.
  4. If the sync radio button is turned off, turn it on. If you want to re-sync the contacts, turn the button off and turn it on again. That’s all.

How to move contacts to Gmail Account on Android

  1. Open contacts application on your phone.
  2. Now open options in the Contacts application.
  3. Under options, find Move Device Contacts.
  4. Tap Move Device Contacts > Select your Gmail account.
  5. It will move all your contacts to your Gmail now.
  6. You can view all of your contacts on contacts.google.com now.

Note: This method doesn’t copy the contacts, it moves the contacts from device storage to cloud.
