Even though it is quiet obvious what the name of the next Android OS after Android N, it is the first time it has popped up in any official document. Considering the fact that Google has been naming its Android open source OS in an alphabetic sequence after the release of Android 1.5 (Cupcake), the next OS will be named Android “O”. Note that there have been eleven consecutive builds after Cupcake, inclusive of Android N.
The upcoming Android N has yet to receive its name after a dessert, though Nutella seems to be the public favourite, the company hasn’t declared anything officially. Before now, we didn’t hear anything about the OS which will follow Android N, however, Motorola went ahead and used the word Android O for it. Unusual proclamation right?
As you can see above, Motorola released a promotional poster of its Moto G4 in which they clearly mentioned that the smartphone will come out of the box with Android Marshmallow. However, it’ll also receive upgrades for both Android N and Android O. This claim could prove to be fatal for Motorola as Google themselves wouldn’t know much about what features might be introduced in the next OS. Note that in the past, Motorola has skipped updates for phones worthy and capable of receiving them on multiple occasions.
Please let us know of your ideas regarding which desert the Android N and Android O might be named after.
