Sony’s Qi Wireless Charging Technology could Charge a Phone in 1 hour

Sony is reportedly working on a new wireless charging technology based on the Qi standard and it has been believed that it can shorten the time of charging to as less as an hour. As the wireless charging devices and accessories are of using more current, hence Sony has achieved this rapid decrease in charging time.

Reports suggest that the new Sony-made devices are capable of using 10-15 watts of electricity. Plus there is this Rohm Company which is developing a control chip that can handle higher wattage of electricity for the wireless charging devices. The control circuitry is mainly responsible for lessening the heating using in the wireless charging devices.

This technology will not appear before 2014 which means that the current devices that feature the wireless charging technology are not packed with the Qi’s advanced technology that its working on and might not charge as fast as in 1 hour. We do, however, have such Nokia, Google Nexus and Samsung phones that get charged wirelessly through an optional wireless charging cover based on the Qi Standards.

This might sound unnecessary to some people but, to me, its better to put the phone down to a wireless charging pad than having to wake up with your phone’s charging cable rolled all around you just because you had to use your phone in bed that night and had to charge it at the same time.
