Sony’s next Xperia flagship will have a 4K display once more, according to leaked codes

Sony is continuing its tradition of adding a 4K resolution to its Xperia lineup of flagships. The XZ Premium that was announced at this year’s MWC 2017 trade show sported a 4K IPS display and it looks like the successor to this smartphone is going to get a display upgrade too.

According to a leaked code, a series of words and numbers reveal that the Sony Xperia flagship will feature a resolution of 3840 x 2160, which in normal terms, is a 4K display. Unfortunately, the resolution is not what is going to be present on a display that features an aspect ratio of 18:9. If this Xperia flagship would have an 18:9 aspect ratio, it would mean that the resolution would be measured as 4320 x 2160 and not 3840 x 2160.

However, there was a previous leak which spoke of a Xperia smartphone that would feature a bezel-less display and would be arriving in 2018. It would still feature a Snapdragon 835 and Sony would finally be ditching the old smartphone design, thus getting on track with the industry.

The details of the phone that we are seeing right now could also be offered in a version that features an 18:9 aspect ratio. However, it is probable that one of these devices features a Snapdragon 835 while the other one features a Snapdragon 845.

The improved efficiency of either one of these chipsets means that Sony might not have to use Adaptive Display technology on the next Xperia successor that gets a 4K display. This means that the smartphone might not have to switch from 4K to 1080p resolutions in order to conserve battery life.

Sony could offer users the option to reduce the resolution to conserve battery life as an added feature, but from what you and I can read, the next Xperia flagship will indeed be shipping with a resolution measuring at 3840 x 2160.
