Samsung has finally announced the much awaited gadget of the time overcoming all the rumors and speculations. In the Unpacked Event Episode 2 which held at IFA, Berlin – Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch alongside the Galaxy Note 3. Galaxy Gear came up with a promising innovation and taking the world of tech to a next era. The Galaxy Gear looks quite good with an elegant design, having a chrome finishing and a 1.63-Inches Super AMOLED display at 320×320 pixels.
Samsung has stated Galaxy Gear as a ”perfect companion to your Galaxy Note 3” as the device will run initially with Galaxy Note 3 only because of it’s latest software coming out of the box i.e Android 4.3. Galaxy Gear will run with other devices like Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 after having a software update that is going to be Android 4.3 as well expected in October, 2013. Galaxy Gear allows the users to read incoming messages, receive incoming calls, emails, notifications. It has got the speakers and mic at the bottom of the strap. The most exciting feature of Galaxy Gear is Smart Relay.
For example you have a text message opened or you are viewing a notification on your Galaxy Gear, and while reading the text you pick up your smartphone and unlock it, that text message or notification will be automatically opened up or expanded on your phone. That’s how the Smart Relay works. It basically transfers the process going on your Galaxy Gear to your smartphone.
Galaxy Gear also hosts a number of S-Voice commands so that you can simply make it work by speaking to your wrist and show the magic to the people around you. You can make draft messages, make voice memos, new calender entries, check weather updates, set alarms using the S-Voice on the Galaxy Gear. The device also allows the users to control their smartphones in a number of ways like controlling the music volume etc.
Along all the software goodies, Galaxy Gear has also got a 1.9 MP camera on the outer side of the wrist strap. The Galaxy Gear camera is packed up with auto focus and smart shot options. Samsung has also inserted the sharing features inside the Gear’s gallery so that you can upload the images instantly from your watch instead of opening the phone. The camera is capable of recording 720p videos as well. Just a simple swipe is required to open the camera and a tap is required to take a shot with Gear’s Camera.
Samsung has added a Gear App store for the applications in Galaxy Gear. It is also learnt that Samsung has made it health companion and it has come up pre-loaded with the S-Health app. Samsung has said that the Gear app store will initially host 70 apps and more will be added with time.
