Samsung drops the Edge moniker, larger Galaxy S8 variant will be named Galaxy S8+

Samsung for the past two years brings two variants of its S-flagship, one with a flat screen display and one with a curved display. This time around they will not be announcing a flat screen variant, as both the variants of Galaxy S8 will have a dual curved display. Samsung has decided to make the the curved display a trademark for their high-end flagship smartphones. Now with both the variants having a curved display, what names would be given for differentiation? We have been using the names Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus but Galaxy S8 Edge at times has also been used. Now a new snippet confirms that Samsung is dropping the Edge moniker, and will name the upcoming devices as Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+

The update comes to us from the renowned tipster, Evan Blass, who tweeted the logo for the larger Galaxy S8 variant putting all the other name rumors to rest. In terms of specs, Galaxy S8+ will feature a 6.2-inch display and will be powered by a 3500mAh battery. In comparison, Galaxy S8 will have a 5.8-inch display and will be powered by  a 3000mAh battery. Apart from display size and battery power, the rest of the specs of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are the same. Both the smartphones will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the first smartphone to do so, along with that a new AI assistant Bixby will be making a debut, an iris scanner and fingerprint scanner at the rear.

Samsung will be unveiling Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on 29th March. Usually Samsung makes use of the MWC platform to announce their S-flaghip devices, but this year they have delayed the announcement taking time to test the devices, so that issues which occurred with Note 7 can be avoided. But even then Samsung will be showing a promo of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ at the MWC 2017, where they will announce Galaxy Tab S3
