Samsung confirms Galaxy Note 8 code named ‘Great’ given model number SM-N950F

Amidst the news of Samsung’s upcoming S-series flagship, we have an update of the next generation Galaxy Note flagship. A few days ago we got to know that Samsung has code named Galaxy Note 8 as Baikal. SamMobile refutes that claim and says that Galaxy Note 8 is code named ‘Great’. Well this sure looks like a sign as to which direction the company will be taking for its Note flagship.

After the Galaxy Note 7 disaster which ended up with the discontinuation of the device, industry analysts predicted that Samsung will kill the Galaxy lineup. The company than later on clarified that they are already working on Galaxy Note 8 as the demand among consumers is high even after the Note 7 issue. There is no doubt that the Galaxy Note flagships are one of the best devices in terms of specs and performance, so just ‘killing’ an established brand will be suicide. Galaxy Note 8 will be Samsung’s chance to show that they are still in the game and can produce top notch devices which are safe.

The report also confirms the model number for Note 8. Samsung as usual will be skipping number 4, as it is considered unlucky in South Korea. They did the same while assigning model numbers to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Galaxy Note 8 has been assigned the model number SM-N950F. Galaxy Note 7 had the model number SM-N930, so given Korean’s ‘tetra-phobia’ they do not want to associate any more bad luck to the Note lineup.
