2. Although this guide is for Galaxy Note 4 running Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, but it will root any previous version of Android on Galaxy Note 4 as well. If you are looking for a way to update your Galaxy Note 4 to android 5.0.1 Lollipop, you may use following guides.

3. Battery should be charged at least 60%!

Your device’s battery shouldn’t be weak. In case your device goes dead during the flashing process, your device may get soft bricked and you might be in need of flashing stock firmware and that will ultimately result in wiping up your data as well. So, make sure that you charge your device before you start the flashing process.

4. Use the OEM data cable to establish connection!

Always use the original data cable to establish connection between your Android device and your computer / laptop. Using ordinary data cables might interrupt the flashing process, so to avoid any mishap, you need to meet this requirement as well.

5. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

6. Turn off Samsung Kies and other softwares while using Odin3!

Make sure that you turn off Samsung Kies while using Odin3 flashtool. Samsung Kies will interrupt Odin3 and will result in causing errors and may not let you flash your desired recovery or root file. Also, make sure that you turn off any antivirus software you’ve installed and also disable firewall to avoid any connection and flashing issues.

7. Disclaimer

The methods involved in flashing custom recoveries, roms and rooting your phone are highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SAMSUNG in our case. Also rooting your device will void its warranty and you will be no longer eligible for any kind of free device services by the manufacturers/warranty providers. If your device comes with a Knox counter on the bootloader, it will be tripped and you won’t be able to reset it again. In case of any mishap we may not be held responsible. Follow these instructions to the letter to avoid any mishap or bricking. Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.

  1. Download and extract Odin3 v3.10.6.
  2. Download and Install Samsung USB drivers.
  3. Download and copy SuperSu.zip file to your phone’s internal or external storage.

    • @disqus_bBA28DctI3:disqus that screenshot is only used as reference for verify root check application. The root is working and doesn’t brick any phone. And this won’t brick anyone’s phone.

    • did everything as per your instructions but keep getting a fail in odin, dunno whats wrong I have sm -n910f and downloaded

  2. Hi guys! First thks for sharing this method…
Unfortunately in my case i cant get it working … tried few times , followed every steps , I’m not a newbie in android I’m used to root and tweak my old beloved galaxys but i got the “fail”message in Odin everytime…
A lill hep would be appreciated 😉

          • the cf-autoroot present in the cf-autoroot web site database for the samsung sm-n910H is marked as compatibl for the 4.4.4 android version… but i already updated it to the 5.0.1 android lolipop version, so am asking is it safe to re-root my phone with this patch or not, because i’ve heard so many guys saying the the health app is not workin properly after rerooting … thank you

  3. finally figured it out, i just had to disable reactivation lock in security setting and voila i got root

  4. Today I purchased an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910V from Verizon. The phone is running Android V 4.4.4. I would like to remove all traces of Verizon from the phone, Verizon apps, Verizon firmware and Verizon bloatware. Can I do this? How do I upgrade this phone to Android V 5.0.1?

    • @disqus_Vsxy6q1k3e:disqus you have to root your phone and then remove all bloatware starting with verizon. You can upgrade your phone using Odin, if the firmware is already available for your device. If it’s not, then you will have to wait.

  5. I dont want to brick my phone. Can someone ples tell me if something happened to ur phone while trying this method cuz i will be trying this method 2morrow
    thx 🙂

      • thanks!
why some said “checkmark Auto Reboot”
        but you said “DON’T”

You can checkmark Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time though. This is very important step to follow to avoid boot loop and also if it reboots after completion of the process, signifies you have got the task done successfully, otherwise it throws an error.

        pls help

  6. I cant get this to work. I have a verizon Note 4, model SM-N910V running android lolipop 5.0.1. I followed the instructions and tried multiple versions of CWM. When flashing with Odin I receive FAILED message soon after hitting start. Any help?

    • @Bsquared169:disqus This wont’ work with Verizon Note 4. As soon as we find a method to root Verizon Note 4, it will be up on our site.

  7. Hi @usamamujtaba:disqus is it okay to use twrp instead of cwm? I did some backups with 4 n910c phones right now and they are using twrp for backing up. Is it safe to use cwm to recover or revert back to its original state?

the twrp recovery that I have right now is still in 4.4.4 is it safe to still recover them even if I have 5.0.1 flashed already?

    • @DanDingello:disqus yes its okay to use TWRP. Make sure that you use latest version,. i.e 2.8.6.2 . And yes it is safe to use CWM to recover or revert back, you only need backup files. Do not restore KitKat backup over Lollipop.

  8. Works down as far as rebooting into CWM recovery mode, but there is no option presented called “Install ZIP”, so there is no way to apply the SuperSU.zip file (which is in /sdcard0 because there is no /sdcard on a Note 4 under N910F).

How do I force CWM to give me an Install ZIP option?

  9. @disqus_5BrsZa0Jq5:disqus that’s not possible. There’s install zip option. You can put the SuperSu.zip on internal storage as well and use it. The second option in recovery is install zip.

  10. Hi

Thank you for excellent guide. I was able to root Note 4 SM-N910C, currently with version 5.0.1. First I used ROM Toolbox Lite for a back up. Upon this SuperSU did the job withhout any problem. At the end I used Root Cheker Basic just to see if everithing is fine.
