The OnePlus 5T comes in at a price of $499, making it half the price of the iPhone X and a bunch of changed features when compared to the OnePlus 5. However, does it warrant an upgrade just because it gets a screen size increase that is present in pretty much the same body? Here is our comparison between the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5.

The 18:9 aspect ratio
Both the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 measure in at nearly the same size with the only difference being that the former is now a member of the 18:9 display clan. This gives the phone its 6-inch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080. OnePlus might have capped the resolution at 1080p once more, but it is because the company wants you to experience the benefits of using a phone with a higher battery timing.
Position change for the fingerprint reader
The screen size increase on the same body means that OnePlus 5T will run out of space to accommodate a fingerprint reader at the front. It has now been positioned at the back and those who are hating on the decision, just remember that it is in a much better spot than the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8.
Some users might still appreciate the front-facing fingerprint reader since it gives them easier access to get into the home screen but there is also another security feature that you might be interested in. For good measure, the fingerprint reader on the OnePlus 5T is one of the fastest in the market.
The all-new Face Unlock feature
OnePlus 5T does not get rid of the fingerprint reader but only changes its position. It does, however, bring in a new security implementation called Face Unlock, which the company claims will unlock your device in 0.4 seconds. It takes a few seconds to recognize your face and register it and when you unlock your phone for the first time, it will be done extremely swiftly. However, you cannot make payments using Face Unlock as you will still have to rely on your fingerprint reader.
No more telephoto lens on the OnePlus 5T
This was a rather strange decision on the OnePlus 5T, as you still get a 16+20MP dual-camera but with the telephoto lens feature out of the smartphone, you can no longer shoot images and video in optical zoom. You will now have to take advantage of digital zoom, which degrades the quality of the image and video, but it will all depend on whether you want to closely examine that specific image and video.
For some, it will actually make a difference to their photography experience but like we said earlier, it all comes down to preferences.
Similarities
Under the hood, the OnePlus 5T is rocking the same hardware as the OnePlus 5. Rumor had it that Qualcomm was going to be prepping a Snapdragon 836 that would be found in the Galaxy Note 8 and OnePlus 5T, but it was not to be. Therefore, the flagship refresh features a Snapdragon 835 with 6GB of LPDDR4X for the base model and 64GB of storage.
If you want a better model than this and 128GB of internal storage too, then you will also get 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM with no other changes present. The battery capacity is still the same, a 3,300mAh capacity and there is no form of waterproofing on the OnePlus 5T. It is safe to say that if you’re feeling daring enough, make sure that the phone is put in a ziplock bag or kept away from water and dust completely.
The phone also does not feature support for wireless charging. To get that feature, you will have to switch to the Galaxy S8, LG V30, or iPhone 8 at the bare minimum which will mean spending more money to get these features. It does, however, support Dash Charge technology, which fires up 4 amperes to charge the phone at a crazy-fast pace.
Aside from these four changes and differences, you’re still getting that same powerful phone that features a buttery smooth Android experience for just $499. Some might not have liked the decision of OnePlus to shoot their OnePlus 5 customers in the foot with this release but the company also needs to look at its sustainability.
