With the launch of OnePlus 2 just around the corner, the rumour mill in tech town is making rounds. OnePlus 1, the ‘flagship killer’ landed in the best smartphones of 2014 list on alot of sites and Times Magazine reviewer dubbed it as ‘the phone of dreams’. With the predecessor, OnePlus 1 setting such a high benchmark, people are looking forward to what the company will be producing this time around, will the device be something akin to what they manufactured last year which was high-end specs with an economical price tag or has the company adopted a different dynamic this time around or will go for the tested path. Let’s have a look at one of the highly anticipated devices of 2015, OnePlus 2.
OnePlus 2 is expected to sport a 5.5 or a 5.7-inch Quad HD display. It will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset. The company has assured the users that they have worked with Qualcomm on optimizing it so that it’s compatible with the smartphones infrastructure.
We worked very closely with Qualcomm’s engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software. The 2 will be ‘cooler than ever.
Apart from this it will be equipped with Aderno 430 GPU and 4GB RAM. It is good that the company is making use of the best specs available in different other flagships in the market right now. The device will come with two options of 32GB and 64GB of internal storage which will not be expendable via a microSD card.
OnePlus 2 will sport a 13-megapixel main camera, though there are rumours that a 16-megapixel camera will adorn the device. We hope that the later news is true and the company is not compromising on the camera feature. The device will have an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with laser auto focus. The smartphone will also come with a dual-sim option according to one of the alleged leaked images.
The device will be equipped with a whooping 3300mAh battery which will be non-removable. The manufacturer has also worked on the security of the device, OnePlus 2 will feature a fingerprint scanner with the ability to store five different prints. Apart from this the device will feature its own Android based OS the OxygenOS.
The specifications and the features do sound great and it seems that the company has another solid device. The only dark cloud here is difficulty that users face in acquiring a OnePlus device. As the system is invitation based and the company does not mass produce. Getting hands on an invitation for OnePlus 1 well did sour the experience for some users. This time around the company assures that things will go much more smoothly, that does not mean that you will not need an invitation for getting your hands on the new device but it means that they have streamlined the system from last time. Good news for OnePlus 1 owners who want the new smartphone, the company says that their old customers will definitely get some benefits. Carl Pei, the co-founder of the company said ‘Our early supporters will be prioritized’.
OnePlus 2 is expected to launch on 27th July ahead of all the major flagship launches by other companies. The company is planning to launch it in Virtual Reality (VR) so everyone is able to stream and attend the event. No doubt the company does follow its mission to heart and that is ‘never settle’ and we hope that the device surpasses everyone expectations.
