Marshmallow comes to Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact

Back in October, Sony had officially announced a Marshmallow update for three of its smartphones – Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. This announcement was followed by the release of Marshmallow’s Beta build in March. However, Sony has started rolling out the official update in US, Russia, Ukraine, Middle East, North Africa and Latin America.

This particular upgrade (build number 23.5.A.0.570 ) is, ofcourse, of the latest Android Marshmallow version-  v6.0.1. In addition to that, the update will include the latest camera interface and the security patch released in February. This should be noted that only three specific models of the smartphones are getting this update, namely the D6503 Z2, the D6603 Z3 and the D5803 Z3 Compact.

Needless to say, Sony will be sending out OTA notifications to the aforementioned devices which will guide its customers through the upgrade process automatically. Alternatively, for a bit eager customers, the manual upgrade option is always available. All you need to do is find the Settings app and open About Device -> Software Update -> Update now. As you guys already know, Marshmallow features many change from its predecessor. Some of the major changes are described ahead. Firstly, Doze – this feature simply puts the smartphone into a ‘deeper sleep’ when it hasn’t been used for a prolonged period of time. As a result, the battery life of the smartphone is drastically increased. Moving on the next big change: Now on Tap – Marshmallow can predict your needs by a simple long press on the home button that provides quick access to learn more about the hang out spot or how to get there. You can use this feature to search for restaurants and even the type of food it serves. Last but not the least, the all new app drawer – as suggested by the heading, Marshmallow comes with a completely redesigned app drawer. Main improvements include the app search mechanism. You can scroll around with alphabet scrolling and can pin you favorite apps on the top to gain easy and fast access.
