LG to unveil a ‘luxury smartwatch’ Watch Urbane at MWC

We were wondering what LG had up its sleeve for the MWC as the company had already announced that they will not be unveiling the much anticipated LG G4 at the event, well the latest information on the front shows that LG will be announcing a ‘luxury smartwatch’, the ‘Watch Urbane’ at the event. The smartwatches are going to be a major product category at Barcelona this time around with different companies showing off their latest nifty devices.

The Android Wear smartwatch will come with an all-metal gold and silver finish with a leather strap. The leather strap is replaceable with any 22mm wide strap. Like LG G R the Watch Urbane will also have a round dial, people like the classic look of the round dial design. It will sport a 1.3-inch P-OLED display with a 241ppi pixel density. A 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 powers the smartwatch and it is also equipped with a 512MB of DDR2 RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The smartwatch comes with an IP67 certification, making it dust and water resistant.

Although LG is coming out with a new watch but it shares a lot of similarities with its predecessors G Watch and G Watch R, so LG has made it a point to mention this aspect that Watch Urbane is not a sequel to what they have offered beforehand but it will ‘complement’ the existing product portfolio.

The LG Watch Urbane’s classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices.LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets.

This is intriguing that the company instead of introducing some new features in a new product will be equipping it with features which are tried and tested. They could have worked on improving the battery time which is one of the woes of smartwatch users. Looking at the images of the new product we can see that LG designers have gone for a rugged classic look, instead of making the watch too techie which at times can intimidate users. It will be interesting to see if the ‘luxury’ Watch Urbane passes muster or not. What do you say?
