After the MWC 2016 Barcelona conference, all eyes are not set on the March 21 event announced by Apple. The company will be unveiling three new products – an all new 4-inch iPhone, Apple Watch 2 and the iPad Air 3.
Here you’ll find all the information regarding the upcoming Apple iPad Air 3. Although iPads have a short history, they carry no shortage of innovation and brilliance. This device is basically a hands-friendly 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro released last year. As far as the design of the tablet is concerned, the iPad Air 3 will feature a 7000-series aluminum body (same alloy used for the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and Apple Watch) along with four speakers, a Smart Keyboard connector, Pencil support though no 3D Touch layer will be offered. In addition to that, Air 3 might be as thin as 5mm.
Up till now, three cases of the upcoming 9.7-inch iPad have been leaked. They show four speakers placed on its corners, a cutout for a magnetic-powered Smart Connector for the Smart Keyboard accessory and a LED flash hole accompanying tablet’s rear camera
Almost all the above mentioned features are available on the iPad Pro, exception being the 9.7-inch display and LED flash. This all but proves that the upcoming tablet has been developed in an image of the iPad Pro. Rumors are that a new battery has allowed Apple to considerably reduce the thickness of their tablet from 6.1mm in the iPad Air 2 to 5mm in Air 3.
Moving on to the Display of the upcoming iPad, Apple might surprise us with 4K-resolution IPS LCD for its 9.7″ screen. Apple has already introduced 4K support for its Apple TV box released last year. In addition to that, the 12.1-inch iPad Pro was graced with a 2732 x 2048 resolution. In case they decide to delay the 4K resolution, the standard 1536 x 2048 Retina display will be used.
Lets have a look in what the tablet will be carrying under its hood. A source told Bloomberg that the iPad Air 3 will be powered by the A9X chipset with 4GB of RAM, which are surprisingly the specification of the iPad Pro. The A9X in the iPad Pro is made by TSMC on a 16nm FinFET process, and a large amount of its die is dedicated to the 12 GPU cores featured in the custom PowerVR 12-cluster Series 7 chip. Coupled with the 128-bit memory bus, the A9X is capable of pushing a memory bandwidth of 51.2GB/sec.
You’d be wondering about the camera by now. Based on carious reports, it is likely that Apple will hold onto the 8MP iSight camera with f/2.4 aperture, autofocus, burst mode and panorama. Similarly, the front camera will be a 1.2MP unit for FaceTime video conversations.
Last but not the least, here is the price of the iPad Air 3. This device will most probably carry the same price tag as its predecessor, iPad Air 2. Precisely $499/$599/$699 for the 16GB/64GB/128GB versions respectively. Needless to say, Air 3 will be unveiled in Silver, Gold, and Space Gray while it could also carry the new Rose Gold color. Hopefully you’ll be able to get your hands on the new tablet in April.
That’s all for now, stay tuned for further updates
