Install TWRP and Root Galaxy J2

Samsung introduced a slew of devices in its low end Galaxy J series. Galaxy J2 is one of the devices in this series. Originally released back in September 2015, this device boasts off a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Samsung used Exynos 3475 Quad Core CPU to power up these devices. 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage are a part of this device. Galaxy J2 has a 5 MP camera at its back on the front it has a 2 MP camera. A 2000 mAh battery is packed under the hood. Galaxy J2 ran on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and unfortunatley, that was the only firmware this device could have. Samsung hasn’t rolled out any update for this device.Install TWRP and Root Galaxy J2

You can always install custom ROMs and flash MODs on your Galaxy J2. For this prupose you need a custom recovery and also have your handset rooted. Luckily, the TWRP recovery for Galaxy J2 is available and that means you can root it as well using this recovery. Once you have flashed TWRP on your J2, you can make the use of it to flash .zip files, clear the cache and dalvik cache, you can also formate data and system partitions manually.

Other than that, Galaxy J2 owners can load applications like Titanium Backup, Greenify, System Tuner and Root explorer to unleash the true power of their device. These applications require root access and that is why you need to root the phone after flashing TWRP. This is not it, there is a lot more you can do once you have both these custom operations performed on your phone.

Since these are custom operations, these will definitely void your phone’s warranty. Important prerequisites

  • TWRP recovery and root files will work for the Galaxy J2 J200F, J200M, J200G, J200GU, J200F, J200BT, J200Y, and J200H. Do not try this method on any other device as you will result in bricking it because of invalid files.
  • Charge your phone up to 50% to avoid power issues during flashing process.
  • Enable USB debugging from the developer options on your phone.
  • Backup all your important contacts, call logs, SMS messages, and media content.
  • Use your phone’s original data cable to connect it to your PC.
  • If you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC, turn it off while using Odin.
  • Disable Firewall/Antivirus in order to download the files properly.
  • Follow the rest of the method being very careful.

Install TWRP and Root Galaxy J2

Required downloads:

  1. Download and install Samsung USB drivers
  2. Download and extract Odin 3.09 on your computer’s desktop
  3. Also, Download TWRP recovery according to your device:
  4. Download SuperSU.zip and copy it to your phone’s internal storage.

How to flash the recovery and root your phone now

  1. Open Odin.exe from the extracted Odin files you downloaded on your computer’s desktop.
  2. In Odin, click the “AP” tab in Odin and select the recovery file for your device that you just downloaded above.
  3. The only options checked in Odin should be Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time. No other options should be ticked.
  4. Now put your phone in download mode. Turn it off first. Now press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons. As soon as it boots up, leave the keys. Once it shows a warning, press Volume Up to continue.
  5. Connect your phone to your PC while Odin is open.
  6. Once the ID:COM box turns blue in Odin after the successful connection, click the Start button.
  7. It will flash recovery on your phone and reboot your phone after that.
  8. Now once again turn off your phone and boot it into recovery. To do so, press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power Key to boot into TWRP.
  9. Now in TWRP, tap Install > Locate SuperSU.zip file that you copied > flash the file. 
  10. Reboot your phone after flashing SuperSU.
  11. Now you are rooted and have the TWRP installed on your device.
