Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 holding the model number SM-T810 and SM-T815 can now be updated to Android 7.1 Nougat using the all new LineageOS. After the suspension of CyaongenMod, LineageOS will be giving a new life to all the devices that are not receiving any further updates from the device manufacturers.

Samsung released the Galaxy Tab S2 2 years ago from today. Tab S2 had two variants including the 8.0 and a 9.7 variant. The Tab S2 G810 and G815 both are the 9.7-inch variants. SM-T810 comes with only WiFi while T815 has both the 3G/LTE and WiFi capabilities. Galaxy Tab S2 is powered by Exynos 5433 CPU accompanied by Mali-T760 MP6 GPU. A 3 GB RAM with internal storage options 32 and 64 GB are a part of this device Galaxy Tab S2 originally ran on Android Lollipop out of the box. Samsung updated Tab S2 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and it looks like that was it. After the Marshmallow update, Tab S2 hasn’t received any further Android update.

We posted the CyanogenMod 14 and CynaogenMod 14.1 based on Android Nougat for the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 earlier. A new OS called LineageOS, which has taken over the CyanogenMOD is also available for the Tab S2. We will be going through the steps to install the operating system and just before that, we will check what’s working in it and what’s not.

The firmware is in development stages and it is continuously improving. However, there doesn’t seem to be a issue which would hinder your everyday use. Highlighted issues contain a low audio volume input, video buffer has issues while streaming videos and Netflix doesn’t work fine. If these issues are not a big deal for you, you may find it a great piece of software as you are getting your hands on the latest and greatest version of Android till date.

To flash this firmware on your Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T810 or SM-T815, you need a custom recovery like the TWRP and then you need to follow a few steps. Read the preparations before you start installing it.

  • Backup everything on your device before proceeding. Do not flash the files on any other device. Check the model number under Settings > About device. Charge your phone up to 50% to make sure that it doesn’t die during flashing process. Follow all the instructions to the letter.

The ROM flashing process requires you to factory reset your device, so, make sure that you backup all of your important contacts, call logs, sms messages and media content. Flashing a custom ROM is not recommended by device manufacturers and the process is highly custom. In case a mishap occurs, TechBeasts, the ROM developer or the device manufacturer may not be held responsible. Make sure that you are doing everything at your own risk.
