Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 comes in 3 different variants. There is a 7-inch, 8-inch and a 10.1-inch Tab 3. The 10.1 variant has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Samsung has incorporated an Intel Atom z2560 CPU in this tab. It has a 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. Tab 3 10.1 has a 3.15 MP camera at its back and a 1.3 MP camera on the front. A 6800 mAh battery is placed inside the tab. Galaxy Tab 2 ran on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bena out of the box. Samsung hasn’t updated this device to any further Android version. Users owning the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 can only update this device using a custom ROM now.

Custom ROMs are always the best pieces of software to update legacy Android smartphones and tablets. We have ROM choices like CyanogenMod, OmniROM, Phoenix ROM, Paranoid Android and many others. CyanogenMod was the most popular aftermarket Android firmware. This ROM was superseded by LineageOS and right now, we have the LineageOS active in development. This very ROM will be used to update a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 to Android 7.1.1 Nougat now.

LinageOS 14.1 is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat basically. It can give you a glimpse of the latest version of Android on your device. The good part here is that you will find the Calls, SMS messages, MMS, WiFi and Bluetooth working on your device. The ROM doesn’t have too many bugs. If you are an Android power user, you can keep it for everyday use as well.

LineageOS 14.1 Android 7.1.1 Nougat is compatible with all variants of Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. You can install Android 7.1.1 Nougat on Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5200, P5220 and P5210. To flash LineageOS 14.1 on Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, you need a TWRP recovery installed on your Tab. While following the procedure, bear in mind that you are doing this at your own risk. If something unfortunate happens, TechBeasts or the ROM developer cannot be held responsible. Custom processes are not recommended by the device manufacturers.

Prerequisites

  1. Your tab must have the model number mentioned above.
  2. The tab must be charged enough to last through the flashing process.
  3. Backup your contacts, call logs, text messages and media content.
  4. Download TWRP recovery for your Tab 3 10.1 using this guide: How to Install TWRP Recovery using Odin
  5. Factory reset your tab to achieve a clean installation.
  6. Enable USB Debugging mode on your tab.

  1. Hi,.. thank you for the instruction. I now run LineageOS 14.1 on my GT-P5200. Unfortunately the Tab does not recognize any cellular data (imei numbers are empty!). I replaced the battery pack and flashed it according your doc. Before I did an backup of EFS. You mentioned cellular data problems and I tried the restore of EFS. But no changes… Do you have an idea what I can try.
