Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has joined the lucky league of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. This hasn’t been done officially, but the developers who are always keen to bring a new life to such old devices have once again made this possible.
You can now easily update your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100, P5110 and P5113 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow using CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM.
The ROM comes from XDA recognized contributor Android-Andi. At the time of writing this post, this ROM is in early development stages, but most of the mainstream features are found to be working quite well. You can flash this ROM on your tablet using the instructions attached below.
Before heading towards the installation instructions, we will have a flashback at the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and also CyanogenMod.

Overview:
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was launched back in May, 2012. It flaunts a 10.1-inch display with 800 x 1280 pixels resolution. Samsung planted a 3.15 MP camera at this tablet’s back and a VGA camera for secondary video calling. Under the hood a T1 OMAP 4430 SoC is placed accompanied by a RAM of 1 GB.
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 ran on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and was later updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. That’s where its official software updates came to an end.
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Android 4.4 KitKat and also Android 5.0 Lollipop by means of CyanogenMod custom ROMs. Now, the latest CyanogenMod 13 is also available for this device. CyanogenMod, without any doubts, has remained the top choice for Android power users.
CyanogenMod 13:
The CyanogenMod 13 is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and has already made its way to quite many Android devices. It’s time for us to flash this latest ROM on our beloved Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Before flashing, be reminded that this ROM isn’t meant to be kept as a daily driver. You may only proceed if you’re an Android power user. Newbies should follow this guide being very careful to avoid any kind of mishaps during the flashing/installation process.
Precautions:
- This ROM is intended for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100, P5110 and P5113. Do not try flashing this ROM on any other device otherwise, you will result in bricking it. Check your device’s model number under settings > about device.
- Charge your tablet up to 50% to avoid any power issues during the flashing process.
- Flash a custom recovery (TWRP) on your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100, P5110, and P5113.
- Backup everything including your important contacts, call logs and text messages.
- Don’t forget to create a Nandroid backup. This is highly recommended so that you can revert back to your previous system in case of a mishap.
- Backup EFS partition to avoid EFS corruption later on.
- Follow the instructions to the letter.

Install TWRP Recovery on your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
Required downloads
- Download and install Samsung USB drivers on your computer.
- Download and extract Odin3 v3.10.6
- Download twrp recovery.tar.md5 file according to your device.
- Make sure that you’ve installed and downloaded the stuff linked above.
- Open Odin3 V3.10.6.exe that you extracted on your PC.
- Put your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in download mode now. To do so, turn it off completely. Now turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home + Power Key. Once your tablet boots up, press the Volume Up key to continue.
- Connect your tablet to your PC now. The ID:COM box in the top-left corner of Odin3 should turn blue. This indicates that your tablet is connected properly.
- Now click the “AP” tab in Odin and select the twrp recovery.tar.md5 file that you downloaded. It will take a second or two for Odin3 to load this file.
- Make sure that your Odin3 looks like this. The only option ticked should be F. Reset Time.
- Now you’re all set to flash the recovery. Just click the start button in Odin3 and sit back.
- Once the process box above ID: COM box shows a green light and flashing process is finished, disconnect your device.
- Now turn off your device properly as we are going to boot into recovery mode. You can turn it off by keeping the power key pressed for a while.
- Now turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power Key. This will boot your device in recovery mode. It should be TWRP recovery that you just installed.
- Once done, reboot your device into the system using the reboot option in TWRP recovery.
Install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on Galaxy Tab 2:
- Download latest CyanogenMod 13.zip file according to your device
- Download Gapps.zip file for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
- Download gapps-lpmm-google-keyboard-20160108-2-signed.zip file.
- Connect your tablet to your PC now.
- Copy all .zip files to the storage of your tablet.
- Now disconnect your tablet and turn it off completely.
- Boot into TWRP recovery now, in order to do so, turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home Button + Power Key. You should see the recovery mode in a while.
- Now in TWRP recovery, wipe cache, factory data reset and advanced options > dalvik cache.
- After wiping all these three, select the “Install” option.
- Now select “Install Zip > Select cm-13.0…….zip file > Yes”.
- This will flash the ROM in your tablet, once done get back to the main menu in recovery.
- Now once again select “Install > Select Gapps.zip file > Yes”
- Once again, get back to the main menu in recovery, select “Install > select gapps-lpmm-google-keyboard-xxxxx.zip file > swipe finger to flash it.
- After flashing all the files in the order mentioned above, reboot your device.
- You should see the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow CyanogenMod 13.0 running on your device in a while.
- That’s all!
In order to enable root access on this ROM, go to settings > about device > tap the build number 7 times. This will enable developer options on in settings. Now open developer options and enable root.
First boot may take up to 10 minutes, you may not worry if it’s taking that much longer. In case it’s taking too long, you may boot into TWRP recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot your device as it may fix the issue. In case your device is having issues, you may return to your old system using the Nandroid backup or follow our guide here to install stock firmware.

I need help. I follow the instructions up to “Flash the Recovery”, through step #8 in the first section. When I boot into recovery mode, I am not in TWRP recovery. Yet in oden, it showed PASS in green:

After running this ( twrp recovery.tar.md5 ) in Odin, which shows greenpass, I shut down the tablet and try to boot into TWRP recovery, but it won’t boot into this.
Finally got it rooted and the mod installed. I am in the tablet. When I connect it to my computer to copy over music and pictures, the device shows up, but has no file structure visible. I can’t copy anything to the tablet. Now what do I do?
@disqus_Mc4nf2burB:disqus untick the auto-reboot option and flash the recovery. Once done, reboot directly into recovery without rebooting your device.
If it still doesn’t boot into recovery, then flash a stock firmware and flash the recovery afterwards as this sure will solve the issue. Good luck.
@disqus_Mc4nf2burB:disqus when you connect your device to your PC, make sure that it is unlocked and there is no password or pin protected lockscreen active on it. It probably is in locked state that’s why its not showing up any files in the computer.

Hi, so (yes laugh, I’ve soft-bricked my device, and never could get Odin to see it (even before this) – I have no experience tinkering with tablets – so, probably pretty typical mistake made and you guys can have a good chuckle. I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to spend some time on the phone/chat/skype/whatever walking me through how to do this? I do have an external SD and have been trying to install this Marshmallow CyanogenMod, but keep returning the errors
after Verifying update package – e:failed to verify whole-file signature – get that 3 times; then it says it’s applying and rebooting.
Just remains in boot-loop.
I did verify the MD5 file in the .zip file; so puzzled, thought I had everything sorted.

I have, successfuly, upgraded my Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 tablet to Marshmallows. BUT it seems that I have lost the communication facilities with the W10 PC. A unit correctly labelled GT-5110 appears (ico looking like a music unit) but the folder is empy (should contain an internal and an sdcard reference). Loading Kies which should supply the driver does not help. USB has been set to MTP on the tablet but Samsung MTP driver available in W10 does not work. I have also enabled Android debugging (ADB) in the tablet with no difference. Tablet or PC problems?
