The Huawei P9 had been rumored from quite some time now. It made unofficial appearances on multiple occasions, most recent one being in the hands of none other than the company’s president. Nevertheless, Huawei just listed smartphone’s release date and few teasers on its official website. Apparently the Huawei P9, probably with its other rumored siblings, will be officially unveiled on April 6.
Huawei finally went ahead and posted some up close images of the upcoming smartphone. Unfortunately these pictures do not reveal the complete design of the smartphone, instead focuses on its multiple features like fingerprint scanner and dual camera system.
As you can see in the teaser above, Huawei confirmed its dual camera setup after extensive promotions under #OO tagline. In addition to that a rectangular fingerprint scanner is also shown which discards the previous rumors of a circular scanner. Last of all, a zoomed image of the metal frame is also shown. Note that this metal frame bears striking similarity to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Check out the image of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to compare the metal frames of both smartphones.
Lets have a look at the rumored specifications of the Huawei P9 and its other variants – Huawei P9 Max and P9 Lite. Huawei P9 will sport a 5.2″ 1080p display. Under the hood, the smartphone will host the Kirin 950 chipset. As far as the memory of the handset is concerned, 3GB of RAM (LPDDR4 1866MHz) and 32GB internal storage are being rumored. Note that this is special display RAM which allows static content on the screen to be rendered while using very little power. Apart from the 12MP dual camerasetup at the back, a 5MP shooter will be available at the front for selfies. Furthermore, the rear camera will come with support for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The 6.4mm thick device will be powered by a 3,000 mAh battery. Huawei P9 will feature pre-installed Android 6.0Marshmallow with EMUI. The Handset will feature dual-SIM and global LTE connectivity.
The Huawei P9 Max got its name from its gigantic 6.2″ screen which features resolutions up to 1400 x 2560 pixels. Of course, P9 Max will sport an enhanced Kirin 955 chipset accompanied by a larger 4GB of RAM. The storage capacity of the device is also double than the one featured in P9 – 64GB. However P9 Max will be running the same Android 6.0 + EMUI. In addition to that, both devices will host the same 3000 mAh battery and carry the same 6.4mm thickness even though they vary considerably in size. Moving on to the optics section, P9 Max will come standard with 12MP duo camera which will support OIS and Laser focus. Surprisingly, the handset will feature a better 8MP selfie camera.
The Huawei P9 Lite sports a slightly smaller 5″ 1080p screen and the same 12MP duocamera with OIS accompanied by the 5MP selfie cam. This particular smartphone will feature processing components with comparatively lower capabilities than other variants of the P9 – thus the name ‘Lite’. The device will host the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chipset, 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage under the hood. Naturally, the battery is smaller too – 2,500mAh Li-Po unit.
Huawei’s official website also has a countdown timer which marks the release of the P9 series. Currently, according to the timer, we are 2 weeks short of the release. Stay tuned for further updates regarding the upcoming unveiling.
