It was an important day in the tech world. We saw Samsung unveiling its latest mid-ranger Galaxy A9 with some mighty specifications and at the same time HTC came up with its latest HTC One X9 which is also a mid-ranger. Samsung Galaxy A9 is a new addition in Samsung’s Galaxy A mid-range series. Galaxy A9 was visiting the rumour mills for quite some time and the phone just went officially through Samsung China.
HTC also chose China to originate its One X9. One X9 is a premium version of HTC’s recent smartphone the One A9. While both the Galaxy A9 and One X9 came out almost at the same time, we expect these phones to stand against each other as a great competitor. A look at the head to head specifications of these smartphones will be good enough to give us an idea what we can pick and which one better suites our needs.
Galaxy A9 vs HTC One X9: Design and Build
The Galaxy A9 resiprocates the same design language as the of the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2016). The phone is packed inside a glass and metal build which carries some likes of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Dimensions of this smartphone are 161.7 x 80.9 x 7.4 mm (6.37 x 3.19 x 0.29 in). Galaxy A9 weighs at 200g. Galaxy A9 has a screen-to-body ratio of 75.9%. Galaxy A9 is one of the most beautifully crafted smartphones from Samsung.
HTC One X9 sports the design specifications almost as same as that of the One A9. While the One A9 looked more like Apple’s iPhone 6, HTC decided not to let the same happen with HTC One X9. The One X9 carries some variations making it much more better and beautiful. The dimension of HTC One X9 are 153.9 x 75.0 x 7.99 mm. HTC One X9 has a screen-to-body ratio of 71.38%. One X9 weighs at 170 grams. One notable change in the design language of HTC One X9 is the absence of the plastic band at the back, which has been a part of HTC’s devices that came out in the recent past. Another significant is the placement of the speakers in the upper and lower side of the phone’s bezel on the front side.

Galaxy A9 flaunts a huge 6.0 inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. Galaxy A9’s pixel density reaches up to 367ppi. The display along with the mighty hardware on the board is actually a perfect combination for those who love to play every single game on the device. Galaxy A9 is the biggest device in the A series so far.
HTC One X9 has a relatively smaller screen. HTC One X9 is equipped with a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. One X9 offers a pixel density of 401 ppi which is definitely an edge because of a smaller display. HTC One X9 stands a little ahead of the Galaxy A9 in the display department.

Galaxy A9 pockets a 13 MP shooter at the rear having f/1.9 aperture. Galaxy A9’s camera also offers optical image stabilisation. It offers 1/3” sensor size and 1.2 µm pixel size alongside geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR mode. The front facer is ranged at 8MP and also has the aperture size of f/1.9.
HTC One X9 is powered by a 13 MP shooter at the back. It offers f/2.0 lens. The selfie shooter on the HTC One X9 is of 5 MP. The Galaxy A9 has a little edge in the front-facing camera department over the One X9. HTC One X9’s camera also offers OIS, and is equipped with all the camera features that the modern smartphones come with these days.

Samsung has powered Galaxy A9 with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 CPU accompanied by Adreno 510 GPU. This Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 CPU is based on Quad core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 & Quad core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU. A RAM of 3 GB is fixed inside. As far as the internal storage is concerned, Galaxy A9 starts from 32 GB and also sports a mircoSD card up to 128 GB. Galaxy A9’s spotlight feature is its massive battery. Samsung managed to embed a huge 4000 mAh battery inside this device. It’s a on-removable battery. Galaxy A9 with these specifications, and specifically with this battery is a great choice for users who do not like to charge their phone several times in one day. Galaxy A9 has a fingerprint scanner embedded inside it’s home button.
HTC One X9 relies on a 64-bit MediaTek Octa-Core Helio X10 CPU. This device also packs up a 3 GB RAM and offers 32 GB internal storage. HTC One X9’s microSD card slot is extendable up to 2 TB. One X9 offers a 3000 mAh battery.
Galaxy A9 vs HTC One X9: Software
Galaxy A9 runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. The device will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update pretty soon as well. This may disappoint some users as Samsung shouldn’t have unveiled a device running Lollipop while Marshmallow is already there.
Galaxy A9 vs HTC One X9: Price & Availability
HTC One X9 will be available or $370 approx. starting from China. There’s no word about the availability of the One X9 in the western world.
Galaxy A9 will be available in China in the upcoming days. There’s no word out on the exact availability and pricing of the Galaxy A9 for now.
