How to update Sony Xperia SP to Android Oreo

Sony Xperia SP is among the few devices that have helped Sony to earn enough of respect back in the good old days. The Xperia SP came out with a 4.6-inch screen with a 720p resolution. Sony used the Qualcomm MSM8960T Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU accompanied by Adreno 320 GPU. There is a 1 GB RAM in this phone and its internal storage is 8 GB. Xperia SP has an 8 MP shooter at its back and a VGA shooter on the front. Sony Xperia SP ran on Android 4.1 out of the box and its updates lasted on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Since then, this device hasn’t seen a single official firmware update. Sony Xperia SP is still alive only because of the custom ROMs. This device has remained lucky enough to run on Android KitKat, Android Lollipop, Android Marshmallow and even Android Nougat. Now that Google has released the new Android Oreo firmware, developers have cooked up a custom ROM for the Xperia SP based on Android Oreo as well. How to update Sony Xperia SP to Android Oreo

The available custom ROM is based on the AOSP. This custom ROM is in initial stages, but surprisingly, it has got most of its features working perfectly well. If you just want to enjoy a glimpse of the latest and greatest version of Android on your very old Xperia SP, then this ROM is your way to go with. It has gots its Phone, Data, SMS Messages, WiFi, Bluetooth, Camera and other such features in place. There are only a few features that are crashing, but we expect the developer to make this ROM more stable as the time passes on. You can flash this ROM on all the variants of the Xperia SP. In order to flash this ROM, you need a custom recovery installed on your phone. This ROM is complete bloatware free. It doesn’t even have GApps, you will have to install GApps manually on it. If you know how to handle a custom ROM and what are consequences of installing it, then it’s time for you to go ahead and flash the Android 8.0 Oreo on your Sony Xperia SP.

  4. Your device must have a custom recovery installed on it. You can install a custom recovery. A method to install custom recovery is listed below.
