How To Update Nexus 5 To Android 4.4.1 Kit-Kat KOT49E Official Firmware and Root it.

Android 4.4.1 arrived a lot faster than anyone expected and instead of receiving the OTA updates, many prefer to update it manually. We have posted the articles about updating Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 to Android 4.4.1 and today we will show you how to update Nexus 5 to Android 4.4.1. This is just an update not the full ROM, so your Nexus 5 must be running Android 4.4 Kit-Kat Official Firmware. This update is only for Nexus 5, Google has not announced any plans of releasing it for other devices, so only Nexus users are the one getting taste of Android 4.4.1.

Android 4.4.1 is just a simple update that only brought minor bug fixes and solved a little performance issues. This won’t going to do anything new to your device, except your device will loose its root access. After updating Nexus 5 to Android 4.4.1, there is another tutorial about Rooting and installing Custom Recovery on it. But before we begin, Make sure that you have battery charged over 60 % and have backed up all your important ContactsCall Logs & Messages.It is highly recommended in case of any mishap or data loss to back up all your important data.

Important things:

  • Your Device must be Running Android 4.4 Kit-Kat KRT160 Official Firmware, Non-Rooted and with Stock Recovery.
  • Enable USB debugging mode.
  • Make sure that battery level is at 85% or more.
  • This Tutorial is Only For Nexus 5.

How To Update Nexus 5 To Android 4.4.1 Kit-Kat KOT49E Official Firmware

Download Android 4.4.1 (7ed504f678cea49ecf0974e8cd956e2974e3f943.signed-hammerhead-KOT49E-from-KRT16M.7ed504f6.zip) for Nexus 5 on your PC.

Connect Nexus 7 to PC.
Copy and Paste the downloaded file to the root of your sd card.
Disconnect the cable.
Turn Off your tablet.
Now go to Bootloader mode, Press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons till you see some text on-screen.
Choose Recovery from Bootloader. You will get an Exclamation mark, press and Hold Volume Up + Volume Down to get into recovery
Select Update form Sdcard.
Select the Update.zip file and confirm the installation on next screen.
Wait for the process to over.

The Device will reboot, Voila! your Nexus 5 has been updated to Android 4.4.1 KOT49E , Wait for at least 5-minutes for the first run.

How To Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery On Nexus 5.

Make sure that Fastbboot/ADB is configured on PC. How? How to Install Android Adb & Fastboot Drivers on Your Windows PC [Guide].
Download SuperSU v1.80 (UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip) and copy it to your sdcard on your Nexus 7 tablet.
Download CWM Recovery 6.0.4.3 and copy/paste it in the Fastboot Folder.
Turn Off your Tablet.
Now go to Bootloader mode, Press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons till you see some text on-screen.
Open Command Prompt in Fastboot folder, Press and hold Shift Key + Right Click anywhere in the folder and click ‘Open Command Window here’.
Type in the following command in cmd: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clock-work-touch-6.0.4.3-flo.img
Once done, choose Recovery from Bootloader.
Navigate to ‘Install zip from sd card’ then select ‘choose zip from sd card’.
Select the Update SuperSu v1.80.zip file and confirm the installation on next screen.
Wait for the process to over.
Navigate to ‘++++++++Go Back‘ then select “reboot system now’.

That’s all your Nexus 5 running Android 4.4.1 Kit-Kat is now rooted, check the Super SU or Download any Root Checker app to verify.
