Have you updated your Sony Xperia Z1 to the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware that Sony just rolled out few days back? Well if so, and if you happen to be an Android enthusiast, its time to get root access on your Xperia Z1 having this latest firmware with the .108 firmware.
To make it easier for you, we will be rooting Sony Xperia Z1 C6902, C6903, C6906 and C6943 running latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware based on the build number 14.4.A.0.108. You just need to be careful while following this guide in order to gain the root access successfully.
Here are the early preparations:
- This guide is only for Sony Xperia Z1 C6902, C6903, C6906 and C6943 running 14.4.A.0.108 firmware.
- Install Sony’s USB drivers from here.
- Make sure that your phone’s battery is charged at least over 60%. This is highly recommended in order to prevent any power issues during the rooting process.
- USB debugging mode must be enabled on your device. To do so, go to Settings > Developer Options > USB debugging mode > Enable. In case you can’t find the developer options, then go to Settings > About Device > Tap Build Number for 7 Times to enable the developer options.
- Use only on OEM data cable to establish connection between your PC and your Phone.
- Allow “Unknown Sources” on your phone. To do so, go to Settings > Security > Unknown Sources > Tick.
How To Root Sony Sony Xperia Z1 running 14.4.A.0.108 Firmware [Bootloader Locked]:
- Download the EasyRoot Tool.zip file
- Extract the file to get the install.bat file.
- Connect your Xperia Z1 to your PC now.
- Run the install.bat file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions now and get it done.
- That’s All! You’re rooted now.
How to install busybox now?
- Go to Google Play Store on your phone.
- Search for “Busybox Installter”.
- Once you find it, install it.
- Run the Busybox installer and proceed with the installation.
- That’s all!
How to check if the device is properly rooted or not?
- To do so, go to Google Play Store on your Xperia.
- Find “Root Checker” and install it.
- Open Root Checker.
- Tap “Verify Root”.
- It will ask you for SuperSu rights, tap “Grant”.
- It should show you Root Access Verified Now!

i have rooted my phone ..i have verified with root checker, thank u. but when i open super user it asks for su binary update and i click to continue. nothing happens and it say reboot and try again. i have rebooted and tried too ..nothing works .. when i try to delete unwanted system apps thru titanium app first it say app is uninstall when u come out of the app u still find the app in it…. what should i do now.
Now download SuperSu.zip file: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Unzip the file, and grap Superuser.apk from the common folder in the unzipped folder.
Now copy this apk to your Xperia, and install it.
Once installed, update Superuser or SuperSu using Google Play Store.

@disqus_5AmwsbQSQs:disqus If you have installed a custom recovery, try clearing up cache and dalvik cache. Or else try flashing the new firmware manually.

Has the cleanup issue been solved? Is it save to go ahead? Never tried rooting before. Want to be sure, that everything work appropiatetly.

When was the latest version released? Could you also supply instructions to how root is removed again (in case one needs to send phone to repair). How about Sony updates afterwards? Can they be applied? I’ve also read something about recovery. What is it, and how is it related to rooting?
@disqus_J7FbSXikXP:disqus no you cannot install ota updates on a rooted device. You can simply unroot your device by flashing stock firmware. Recovery allows you to flash zip files and perform other custom operations, while root helps you to run some cool applications and modify your device.
Where do I get the stock firmware from? How do I use recovery? For starters, I want to root, but at some point, I think I’ll play around with custom ROM’s too.
Where would one find the stock ROM for flashing? And how do you use recovery?

Rooted my device today. It went fine, but where also stuck at the clenup statement. Went through the rest of the steps, and all seems fine though. I would change the instruction in “How to install busybox now?”, point 4 though to “Open BusyBox and initiate the install sequence inside BusyBox”. It would also be great, if you wrote the developer of the apps BusyBox and Root Checker, so it’s easier to distinguis in Google Play. Also a side note. I wasn’t asked for SuperSU rights, when root was confirmed. But all in all a success :O) Thank you.
