How to download and install Windows 8.1 Update 1 before it is officially released

At first Windows 8.1 update files were leaked and were used by many people but later Windows removed those leaked files from internet and they were not available to be downloaded. Once again these files are available to download and users can update their Windows 8.1 to latest update “Update 1”. The files were same which were previously leaked having no changes. Windows 8.1 Update 1 is announced to be launching on April 8 and if you feel like having the update before it is officially released so here is the way to do it.

Windows placed the updated final product of Windows 8.1 Update 1 on public Windows Update server and the files would have remain unnoticed because of its complex naming but one blunder from Windows made their update in the hands of users. They added a new key to your registry and if you somehow managed to slip passed by Windows Update as a Microsoft employee it will start the update.

As soon as Windows realized their mistake they removed those files and fixed their error but those who downloaded those update files, they uploaded those files on digital file lockers and if you get hold of those files you can easily download and get your Windows 8.1 updated.

Downloading and Installing Windows 8.1 Update 1:

You should verify the matching of SHA hash of updated files using Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier which is a free tool. Make a backup of your important data just for a precaution and remember that you are trying this at your own risk because it is risky to get Windows updates from any other source rather than getting from Microsoft official website.

You can get the update files either from the Neowin forum member FaiKee who put the official download links from windows, they were working before but if they don’t work for you, you can get the updates from Mega download links.

Official Windows Update:

To download the patch files for 64-bit: KB2919442 / KB2919355 / KB2932046 / KB2937592 / KB2938439 / KB2939087

To download the patch files for 32-bit KB2919442 / KB2919355 / KB2932046 / KB2937592 / KB2938439 / KB2939087

To download the patch files for ARM : KB2919442 / KB2919355 / KB2932046 / KB2937592 / KB2938439 / KB2939087

Mega download links:

For 64-bit: Download

For 32-bit: Download

For ARM: Download

If by some reason these links don’t work (which I am pretty sure that it ain’t going to happen) you can get these files from other file lockers because they are available in almost all file lockers and even on torrent index. As you get the Update 1 file, the next thing is to install six patches in a specific order. While you will be installing the patches your computer will restart couple of times.

Below is the order of patches you need to install, don’t change the order or the update will not work

  1. KB2919442
  2. KB2939087
  3. KB2932046
  4. KB2919355
  5. KB2938439
  6. KB2937592

After you are done with installing the patches, you will notice a change in the interface which will indicate that you have updated your Windows 8.1 successfully. The new metro interface is an addition and this update has made changes in previous update in such a way that you don’t feel a whole shift of operating system. You still feel that you are using the same Windows 8.1 with much advancement. For desktop there is a better PPI display support and Photo Viewer and Media player separately opens the audio video files and it doesn’t takes you to Metro. Windows 8.1 update on tablets adds search button on the start screen and there is improvement and fixes in the stock Metro apps.
