Windows 8.1 update was the latest version that came with extra features, one of its significant features included the SkyDrive which was added in the operating system in a better way. Its is really helpful for those who don’t want their softwares and programs to use the storage on laptop/PC but if you don’t want to avail this feature then the better integration of SkyDrive is not very helpful for you. If you don’t want to use the SkyDrive there are few steps which will allow you to uninstall it from your OS.
As we know that to uninstall a normal program we simply go to Control Panel and using Add/Remove programs we remove the program, but to uninstall SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 we have to a bit more than that. Its few easy steps you need to go through, like you need to go to Run and remove using Group Policy Editor. Although it sounds very difficult but its just few easy steps, and if you follow them it will remove SkyDrive from your windows 8.1 easily.
Steps to remove SkyDrive
Step 1: To begin with the procedure, first you need to open Run from your Windows 8.1. Type gpedit.msc after opening run and press OK, this will open the Group Policy Editor. You can use the shortcut key Win+R to open the Run command.
After you opened the Group Policy Editor, you will see the Administrative Template which will be located on the left side of the screen. Go to Administrative Template> Windows Component > SkyDrive.
After doing the above mentioned procedure, you have to double click on the Settings which says Prevent the usage of SkyDrive for file storage.
A window will open which will have written Enable on the left side, just check it and click ok
How to add SkyDrive back:
After you clicked OK you have completed the procedure and to apply the changed settings you need to close all the Windows and then open them again.
If someday you have a feeling of bringing your SkyDrive back to action, all you need is to reverse the procedure and in the Prevent the usage of SkyDrive for file storage you selected “Enable”, now to use the SkyDrive you need to select “Disable”. The computer/laptop will ask you to restart in order to use SkyDrive.
Removing SkyDrive from your Modern UI of Windows 8.1
You can also hide the SkyDrive icon from your Modern UI of Windows 8.1 screen, you just need to right click the SkyDrive icon and select Unpin in order to remove it.
You can bring the icon back by selecting Pin by again clicking right on your SkyDrive Icon.
