Micromax with its latest offering, the CyanogenMod-powered Yureka means business. Launched today in India, Yureka is Micromax’s first product under the Yu brand. Well have you noticed the name, interesting choice, won’t you say so? It looks as if the company wants to have its ‘eureka’ moment with Yureka.
Micromax’s Yureka sports a 5.5 inch LCD display, with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartphone is equipped with a 64-bit, Quad-core Snapdragon 615 and has a 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage which is extendable. The smartphone comes with a dual-sim capability and sports a 13MP rear Sony Exmor sensor camera and a 5 MP front camera. Yureak is powered by CyanogenMod 11, which is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. This is the only smartphone to be powered by a Cyanogen OS after OnePlus One. The smartphone will retail at $142 (8,999 INR), the economical price tag will definitely work in towards profitable sales of this nifty device. The pre-orders for the smartphone open tomorrow on Amazon and the first buyers also get a complimentary leather back cover.
Well the Indian smartphone market has been in the news this week for various reasons like Motorola’s plans for 2015, HTC Desire 620G’s launch to sales bans on Xiaomi and OnePlus. All of the smartphone manufacturers are working towards maximizing the potential of the Indian market to their advantage, as Indian market currently is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world. As Cyanogen is going to be the exclusive partner of Micromax for the Yu brand, they seem to have worked out their vision for gaining an edge in the market. Cyanogen’s CEO, Kirt McMaster in today’s launch made his company’s intentions quite clear, he said that: ‘There’s a battle being fought in India, and Cyanogen+Yu, we intend to win that battle.’ Other manufacturers better watch out.
It looks like that India has another serious contender for its competitive market. There are a couple of things which will definitely work in Micromax Yureak’s favor, the sale bans on its competitors, its economical price, great specifications and its easy availability on Amazon. All in all it shows how serious Micromax is about cutting the competition and being the top manufacturer in the Indian market and if they keep playing smartly by bringing out great economical devices, their bet will definitely pay off. With different manufacturers eyeing a slice in the Indian smartphone market, 2015 is definitely going to be quite competitive.
