Apple to make use of stainless steel frames for iPhone 8

Apple will go all out for its next generation smartphone, iPhone8, as the company will be celebrating a decade of producing impeccable devices. Well new news out today suggests that Apple will be making use of stainless steel frame for iPhone 8, instead of its regular aluminium frame. This switch has been made to give the device a more premium look.

The next-generation iPhone is expected to abandon its conventional aluminum back cover design and will adopt a new design using two reinforced glass panes and a metal frame in the middle. The metal bezel will be made of stainless steel using a forging process to enhance its sturdiness and reduce costs and manufacturing time.

Last time around Apple made use of the stainless steel frame for the iPhone 4S. The process of making these chassis is a bit different, first a panel is cut out and then molten steel is poured into a mold and then cooled down. The stainless steel frame will be sandwiched in between glass to make it scratch proof and also add to its durability. In addition, after the record sales of the glossy black iPhone 7, this was a definitive direction that the company would take after looking at what consumers want. Apple will be working with Foxconn Electronics and Jabil for the production of these frames.

iPhone 8 is expected to unveil in September, at this moment it is unclear whether Apple will be using the stainless steel frames for all three of its variants which are iPhone 8, iPhone 8S and iPhone Pro. The iPhone Pro is expected to be the premium handset. As stainless steel is expensive as compared to aluminium, there are chances that this frame may only be used for the premium iPhone 8 handset.
