Apple to launch 3 new iPads in the second half of 2017

Apple is planning to release three new iPads this year. Earlier it was reported that these iPads will be launched in second quarter of this year. But now it seems that the company is delaying the launch of the iPads and pushing it to the second half. Industry sources claim that the iPdas are still in the planning stage and have not entered mass production.

The three new iPads which will be launched this year are 9.7-inch, 10.9 inch and a 12.9-inch models. The 9.5-inch model is supposed to get into mass production in the first quarter. The 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch model will enter production in the second quarter. One of the major reasons for the delay in the production process is due to the low supply rate of the chipsets that will be used in the iPads. The new iPads will make use of A10X chipset which will be produced using the 10-nanometer process. This is what MacRumors had reported about the issue:

TSMC is scheduled to start making Apple’s A10X chips for the next-generation iPad series slated for launch in March 2017. Unsatisfactory yields for the foundry’s 10nm process could disrupt the schedule.

The high -end 10.5-inch model and the 12.9-inch iPad pro model will be making use of the A10X processor and the 9.-7-inch model will be a ‘low-cost’ model and will make use of the A9X processor. As the production targets for the A10X have not been achieved that is one of the reasons for the delay for the iPads. Consumers have made it a point to communicate to the company that no new developments have been made in the iPads. Looking at this Apple is planning to make some design changes in 10-inch iPad Pro model which will be its flagship model. The iPad will have an edge-to-edge display and no home button. The size of the bezels will also be reduced. This development is in line with what Apple plans for iPhone 8. It seems that they are planning to extend the design changes beyond the iPhone.
