All new Xiaomi Mi 5: Specifications, features, price and release date.

Xiaomi finally unveiled the Mi 5 – 2 years after its predecessor, Mi 4. Although we saw Xiaomi Mi 4i and Mi 4c along the way, they were just minor updates to their parent smartphone. There have been reports regarding the release of Mi 5 for quite some time, though now the device has been officially announced today at the MWC event. Well now, Xiaomi came up with a completely redesigned and we must say, quite an innovative handset. Let’s have a look inside the hood.

Xiaomi Mi 5 will be coming with not just one, but three different variants. Although the design of the trio is completely similar, their build material is what makes them look different from each other. Apparently Mi 5 will have Standard, High and an Exclusive builds. Two of the devices are made with a combination of metal and Gorilla Glass 4 while the third one features a ceramic-glass duo. Overall the design is curved around the edges making it comfortable to hold. Apart from the different build material, there is a small difference present between the chipsets and internal storage of the devices. Complete internal specifications of the device are mentioned below.

As you can observe in the above table, all the variants will be featuring the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 although the clock speed differs with versions. Furthermore, all three devices will come with the same 5.15 inch 1080p HG display. Apart from that, the device will, of course, hold a fingerprint scanner embedded inside the home button while Xiaomi also decided to ditch the eMMC storage for the more advanced UFS 2.0. Moving on the performance capabilities of the smartphone, reportedly the exclusive version of the Mi 5 scored an amazing 140,000 points on AnTuTu. Yes, we kid you not – Xiaomi Mi 5 even beat the Samsung Galaxy S7 in the score.

Needless to say, Xiaomi Mi 5 is a good-looking phone but you’d be wondering by now that what the device will cost you. Well apparently, Mi5 is the most affordable Snapdragon 820 smartphone yet. This should be noted that Xiaomi is a China based company which will be launching the three variants in its home country first. So if you want to get the device in U.S or someplace else, it might cost you a bit higher depending on the import expenses. Following is the table which encapsulates the costs of all variants.
